INTERNSHIPS

Positions are designed to provide a wide range of practical, programmatic, and administrative experience relating to environmental and conservation issues of national and global significance. Specifically, interns will be expected to provide detailed research, writing, and general support for our ongoing campaigns.

In addition to providing the opportunity to participate in many aspects of our work, COARE offers interns exposure to government agencies, non-governmental groups, and other organizations involved in ocean conservation and the policy-making process.

Ocean Communications Intern >>

COARE is looking for immediate assistance from a motivated individual to assist its public relations and communications efforts. The intern will participate in a variety of promotional projects, and will help gather organizational press through high profile media outlets. The intern would also assist COARE's marketing efforts by creating and leading efforts that lead to new supporter acquisition, search engine optimization, and increased web traffic. The successful applicant will spend a considerable portion of his/her time with media tracking and reporting, outreach calls, e-mail, and web updates. Other opportunities will be available to candidates who exhibit greater experience in this field.

Internship activities include:
  • Developing, maintaining, and promoting COARE's presence and campaigns on social networking sites
  • Keeping abreast of current internet marketing and networking trends
  • Keeping abreast of current developments in marine conservation - locally, nationally, and worldwide
  • Keeping abreast of policy and proposed policy affecting or relating to COARE's projects
  • Preparing educational materials and fact sheets
  • Providing some administrative support (e.g., coordinate volunteer efforts, prepare mailings).
The ideal candidates should possess:
  • An interest in environmental issues
  • Excellent research, writing, media, and communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team effort
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal direct supervision
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and a strong desire to learn
  • Thorough familiarity with social networking sites and trends (facebook, twitter, etc.)

Ocean Program Intern >>

COARE is looking for immediate assistance from a motivated individual or individuals to assist with the management and implementation of some of its program efforts. The intern(s) will participate in a variety of projects, and will have the opportunity to be engaged at all levels of our campaigns. The successful applicant will spend a considerable portion of his/her time with project tracking and reporting, outreach calls, e-mail, and web updates. Other opportunities will be available to candidates who exhibit greater experience in this field.

Internship activities include:
  • Promoting COARE projects and programs
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of program and project related budgets
  • Recruiting participant restaurants and businesses for Shark Safe Certification Program
  • Corresponding with, and supporting, program volunteers
  • Coordinating volunteer efforts
  • Soliciting and acquiring in-kind support for programs and events
  • Keeping abreast of current developments in marine conservation - locally, nationally, and worldwide
  • Keeping abreast of policy and proposed policy affecting or relating to COARE's projects
  • Preparing educational materials and fact sheets
  • Providing some administrative support (e.g., prepare mailings)
The ideal candidates should possess:

Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualifications:
  • Substantive education, knowledge or professional experience in marine or environmental science or policy
  • Film or sound industry experience
  • College graduates or graduate students in law, environmental policy, or ocean management.

Compensation: These are unpaid internships. No benefits or relocation costs are provided. We welcome use of internships for academic credit, thesis, or practicum work towards degree or certificate programs. Students, recent graduates, and graduate students are encouraged to apply.
